Umbrella and specialty coverage

Liability limits on a home or auto policy stop at a number. An umbrella policy sits above them and keeps paying, which matters because a judgment does not stop at your policy limit either. Specialty policies cover the things a standard personal policy was never written for.

What this coverage generally includes

  • Personal umbrella liability, typically from $1 million upward
  • RV, travel trailer and fifth wheel
  • Boat and personal watercraft
  • Classic and collector cars, on agreed value
  • Scheduled valuables: jewellery, firearms, instruments, cameras
  • Flood, through the NFIP or a private market

What we will ask you

  • Your current home and auto liability limits
  • Household assets and future income you would want protected
  • Every vehicle, trailer and watercraft you own, licensed or not
  • Any rental property, board seat or side business

Worth knowing

  • An umbrella requires your underlying home and auto limits to reach a minimum first. We will tell you what has to move.
  • An umbrella covers liability. It does not add coverage for your own property.
  • Flood is a separate policy with its own waiting period, usually 30 days. Do not leave it to the last minute.

Descriptions of coverage on this site are general summaries for information only. They are not an offer of insurance, not a contract, and not a guarantee of coverage or price. Only the policy issued by the insurance company determines what is covered. Coverage, availability, discounts and eligibility vary by carrier and by applicant and are subject to underwriting.
