Motorcycle and off-road insurance

A motorcycle is not a car with fewer wheels, and a personal auto policy will not cover one. Arizona requires liability on any street-registered bike, and the coverage worth arguing about is the part a standard quote leaves off: your gear, your custom parts, and what happens when the other driver has no insurance.

What this coverage generally includes

  • Bodily injury and property damage liability
  • Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage
  • Collision and comprehensive, including theft
  • Custom parts and equipment, above the built-in allowance
  • Riding gear: helmet, jacket, boots
  • Off-road: ATV, UTV, side-by-side and dirt bikes
  • Trailer and transport coverage

What we will ask you

  • Year, make, model and engine size of each bike
  • Roughly what you have spent on custom parts and accessories
  • Where it is stored, and whether that is garaged or not
  • Your riding history and any safety course you have completed

Worth knowing

  • Custom parts allowances are usually small by default. If you have spent real money on the bike, that limit needs raising deliberately.
  • Uninsured motorist coverage matters more on a bike than in a car, because the injuries are worse and the at-fault driver often cannot pay.
  • Many riders drop to liability-only over winter. We can usually do better than cancelling and rewriting.

Descriptions of coverage on this site are general summaries for information only. They are not an offer of insurance, not a contract, and not a guarantee of coverage or price. Only the policy issued by the insurance company determines what is covered. Coverage, availability, discounts and eligibility vary by carrier and by applicant and are subject to underwriting.
